Trade Value = Sum of Jimmy Johnson Chart Values for each pick
The Jimmy Johnson Trade Value Chart assigns a point value to every pick in the NFL Draft (picks 1–224).
The formula for the chart approximates an exponential decay:
Value(pick) ≈ 3000 × e^(−0.0462 × (pick − 1))
In practice, the exact chart values are used (as published). A trade is considered fair when both sides are within 10% of each other's total value.
The surplus is calculated as:
Surplus = |Value_A − Value_B| / max(Value_A, Value_B) × 100%
